In-Tune Music Service LLC is a single-member limited liability company run by Dan Litten (me!). I specialize in your bread-and-butter repair services for band and orchestra instruments. My focus is on student instruments, as the bulk of my work is supporting school music programs and music students, though I work on higher end instruments as well - and I guarantee high quality workmanship and materials! If you're not happy, I'm not happy.
I also offer repair services for some fretted and folk instruments (guitar, banjo, mandolin, mountain dulcimer, etc.), but currently I am not offering repair services for percussion or specialty instruments (harp, piano, hammered dulcimer, autoharp, etc.).
That said, if you have something weird that needs work I'd love to look at it! Tinkering with instruments started as a hobby before a career, so I'm always up to check out the oddities of the music world.
Qualifications
I received my degree in Band Instrument Repair Technology, as well as a diploma in Violin Repair, from MSC Southeast (Red Wing, MN) in 2021. After moving back to NC and briefly apprenticing with local veteran technician Melody Choplin, I worked for Sweetwater Sound in their then-new B&O department's repair shop. There I was able to further develop my skills under the tutelage of master technicians Pat Nash, Deb Lahr, and Carl Rasmussen. I also regularly attend regional NAPBIRT clinics for continuing education to ensure I'm staying up to date with the latest tools and techniques.
Eventually I came back to NC and began working as an independent contractor subbing jobs from local music stores. Now, I am able to train my own apprentices in addition to repairing and managing my shop full-time.

In-Tune Music's mission is to add value to the community in which it operates by providing access to musical instrument repair (MIR) service and education. I believe that the artistry and craftsmanship involved in MIR not only helps musicians, but by supporting musicians and school arts programs it benefits the community in a much broader capacity.
My vision for the company is to provide community access to a wide variety of tools for self-expression. For now, it's limited to helping musicians keep playing and practicing by fixing instruments - but we've only just begun!
Anybody who's ever worked in an independent music store knows we don't get into this to get rich. We're here because we have a passion for music, musicians, and instruments and we love to participate in our little musical community!
Daniel Litten is the owner of In-Tune Music Service, LLC. He's been involved in the music retail industry since 2013 and professional instrument repair since 2019. He is driven by a desire to be of service to his community, whether related to music or not.
After spending many years in various retail and corporate environments, he was suffocating working in a system built around consumerism and greed. With so much of human life spent at work he thought that work should be built around helping others, being of service, and helping the community to grow and thrive. Thus, In-Tune Music was born. This is a business made for the community's benefit - not simple profit.
Daniel is a hobbyist guitarist, ukulelien, and mandolinist. He also plays most other instruments to varying degrees of competence, mostly to ensure proper functionality and adjustment for his repair services. He's an animal lover, and spends most of his free time hanging out with cats. You may also see him around town participating in workshops at maker spaces, attending concerts, or enjoying the night life with friends. If you see him don't be shy, say hi!
